An Irvine woman has secured victory in her campaign to have a key bus route serve her local stop once more.

Margaret Anne Arnott told the Times the Stagecoach 30/30A service, between Montgomerie Park and Greenwood Academy, had stopped serving the stop on Littlestane Road at Speyburn Place at the beginning of the school year.

Margaret Anne said her son had used the 30/30A service every day to travel to and from school.

After three months of seeking answers from Stagecoach without success, Margaret Anne said the bus firm had eventually told her that its drivers had the wrong timetable.

Margaret Anne said: “Even if they would have come back and said to me ‘no, we’re not servicing that road’ then I would have known where I stood. But not knowing if it was coming or not coming was driving me mental.

“We were having to drive him to school, having to take time off work to get him to school. It's been a rather stressful three months.

“All someone did was fill me with reassurances that it would be looked into, but no one did.

“To have zero response is ridiculous.”

According to timetables published on Stagecoach's website, the 30/30A route runs on schooldays only, with two journeys in the morning from either Montgomerie Park (30) or the Holehouse roundabout (30A) to Greenwood Academy in the morning, and two in the afternoon running from the school to either Montgomerie Park or Girdle Toll.

There is one additional return trip in the morning which doesn't run to or from the Academy.

Margaret Anne told the Times that the service had resumed at the stop near to Speyburn Place on Wednesday, November 9 - and said that other parents in the area had been faced with a similar situation since the new school year began in August.

When approached by the Times, Stagecoach said its drivers had been "reminded" of the correct route for the service.

A spokesperson for the firm's West Scotland operation said: “There has been an increased demand for bus services from previous academic years, which can vary from day to day.

"Our local depot team has reacted to this, however on occasion we haven't been able to supply additional resources.

“The 30 and 30A operate slightly different routes and we have reminded all of our drivers of the need to fully serve the route.”

Stagecoach added that they have other services running in the area and that they would continue to correspond with North Ayrshire Council and Greenwood Academy regarding the services.

The company also said the service was not “provided or subsidised by North Ayrshire Council or Greenwood Academy”.
