A MAN had to be taken to hospital following an alleged serious assault in Irvine at the weekend.

Now police are appealing for anyone with information on the incident on Saturday afternoon to come forward.

Detectives say a 30-year-old man was cycling along Rivergate at around 4.15pm on November 26, when he was seriously assaulted by two men.

Police attended and the injured man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock to be treated for his injuries.

The first suspect is described as white and in his early twenties. He was wearing black trousers, a black T-shirt and a dark-coloured baseball cap.

The second suspect is described as white and also in his early twenties with black hair. He was wearing black trousers and a grey zipped top.

Detective Constable Stevie Williams said: “Our investigation into this incident is continuing and officers have been carrying out enquiries and gathering CCTV footage.

“Rivergate was busy on Saturday afternoon when this incident happened and I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact us.”
