NORTH Ayrshire takeaways tasted success this week at a national awards ceremony celebrating the best of Asian food.

The Scottish Asian Food Awards returned for a third year to recognise and reward a variety of Asian restaurants, takeaways and eateries across Scotland.

Categories included Korean Restaurant of the Year, Asian Street Food of the Year and Five Star Indian Restaurant of the Year - and three local businesses came out on top at a black tie awards ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow on Monday (November 28).

Zain’s Curry House in Dalry - no stranger to awards in recent times - won the Curry Takeaway of the Year prize for the south west region, as well as overall winner in the category for the whole country.

Tatsu Restaurant in Irvine's Townhead was named Cantonese Restaurant of the Year, with the team thanking its customers for their support.

And Viking Cafe, which has takeaways in Saltcoats and Kilwinning, earned the Asian Takeaway and Home Delivery of the Year award for the south west region, adding another feather to its cap.

The cafe in Kilwinning claimed top prize in the ‘kebab takeaway of the year’ category at the Scottish Takeaway Awards 2022 earlier this year, winning for both the west region, and for Scotland overall.

In September, Zain's was also crowned as the best takeaway in the country at The Food Awards Scotland.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Asian Food Awards said: “We’d like to say a massive congratulations to all winners and finalists from the third Scottish Asian Food Awards.

“This campaign designed to honour all varieties of Asian cuisine has done brilliantly across Scotland and it started in 2018.

“We’re proud to honour and celebrate the individuals who open Scotland’s doors to Asia’s kitchen.”
