TRAINS - or at least a few of them - will run in Ayrshire tomorrow (Thursday, January 5), ScotRail has announced.

The rail operator has run no Ayrshire services during the latest RMT strike action on January 3 and 4.

RMT members working for Network Rail go back to work on Thursday before walking out again on January 6 and 7.

ScotRail originally planned to run the same 'strike day' timetable on Thursday - but has now announced there will be some trains on two Ayrshire lines.

Services will run on the Ayr-Glasgow route via Irvine, Kilwinning and Paisley, and on the Ayr-Stranraer line via Girvan.

The first trains from Ayr to Glasgow on Thursday will leave Ayr at 7.18am and 7.35am, with departures approximately every 30 minutes thereafter until 11.01pm.

The first train from Glasgow to Ayr will leave Glasgow Central at 7.31am.

Trains will then leave Glasgow roughly every 30 minutes until 7.30pm and then every hour, with the last departure from Glasgow Central at 12.15am on Friday.

Trains will run on the Ayr-Stranraer route at the following times.

From Ayr: 7.29am, 11.29am, 3.31pm, 5.32pm.

From Stranraer: 7.15am, 9.01am, 1.02pm, 5.09pm, 7.08pm.

There will be no services between Largs/Ardrossan and Kilwinning, or on the Glasgow-Carlisle route via Kilmarnock and Dumfries, on Thursday.

On the two remaining strike days - Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7 - ScotRail will return to its strike timetable, meaning there will once again be no trains in Ayrshire.

David Simpson, ScotRail's service delivery director, said: “We have worked really hard to add more services to the timetable for Thursday. We’re pleased that customers will have more travel options throughout the day.

“However, we are still advising customers to check their journeys before they travel and we’re reminding them that we will have to revert to our strike timetable on Friday and Saturday, which we know will be really frustrating for them.

“The widespread disruption across the whole Great Britain rail network as a result of the dispute between Network Rail and the RMT is really disappointing coming at a time when we need to be encouraging more people back to the railway.”

Customers are advised to check their entire journey on the operator’s website, mobile app, or social media channels before they travel.
