FIRE crews were in Irvine this morning (January 16) following a blaze inside a commercial property.

The Times contacted the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) after hearing reports of their attendance in the Townhead/High Street area of the town.

And the service have now confirmed that they were present in the area to deal with a "small fire" inside a commercial property.

There were no reported casualties from the incident, and crews say that the blaze has now been dealt with and the area has been made safe once more.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.13am on Monday, January 16, to reports of a fire within a building on Townhead, Irvine.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a small fire within a commercial property.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe."

Police Scotland were also reported to be in attendance, and have been approached for comment.

As of yet, it is unclear which business in the area was effected by the fire.
