TODAY is the day - after around two and a half years, The Ship in Irvine is finally opening once again.

But unfortunately for the venue, due to circumstances out with their control, an issue has been encountered on day one.

The gastro-pub announced yesterday that it would be unable to serve food today, Friday January 27.

However, they are not letting the issue derail their grand opening - as the bar will still be open to serve drinks.

A social media statement confirmed: "Due to circumstances outwith our control we will be unable to serve food tomorrow, as originally planned.

"All reservations have been notified, we apologise for any disappointment and we appreciate your understanding.

"The bar will be open from 12-8pm for coffee and drinks if you would like to pop in."

The town's oldest pub has not indicated that this issue will extend beyond today's service.

The venue is still open for bookings - though not on Mondays and Tuesdays when it will be closed.

Reservations can be made via their Facebook page (facebook.com/theshipayrshire).
