AN IRVINE boxer has been selected amongst an elite group of Scots that are going international to hone their talents.
Matthew McDonald, of Irvine’s Vineburgh Boxing Club is one of eight talents from Boxing Scotland’s ‘elite boxing group’ who have headed out to Holland for the first of four consecutive joint training camps over the next month.
The trip marks the first international journey for Boxing Scotland in 2023, as we look to build on one of the most successful years ever for amateur boxing in this country.
It will be an intense month ahead for members of the Boxing Scotland Elite Boxing Group as they hold training camps with Holland, Wales, the British Army and Ireland.
Performance Director and Joint National Coach Craig McEvoy is keen to get the boxers in peak condition ahead of international competitions getting underway in March.
They will do so with trips like this, and camps held at home in Scotland where boxers will participate in 40 to 50 rounds of sparring over the course of the month.
