THE winning name for Irvine Clean Up Crew's new stuffed donkey mascot has been chosen.

And the winner was nine-year-old Dreghorn kid Adam Innes who 'blew the judges away' with his suggested name of 'Breeze'.

The Times reported last week how the famed group - who volunteer their time to keep Irvine looking wonderful - are looking for names for their 'mascot'.

Adam was delighted to see his name selected, and to meet Breeze for himself, this week.

The youngster also picked up a £50 Asda voucher for his imaginative work.

Breeze is a stuffed donkey who was found - looking rather worse for wear after being discarded or lost in a tree - by one of the groups members.

They they took the donkey in and looked after and cared for the stuffed toy.

Chair and founder of the group, Sandra Cuthbertson Hughes, told the Times how impressed she was with Adam's chosen name.

She also added how Breeze provides a perfect example of the attitude all locals should take with 'rubbish'.

Sandra explained: "We’re delighted with Adam’s name for our new mascot. Breeze the Donkey was unloved, thrown away and looked like “rubbish” – he tells a real story about how we all treat things we no longer want or need.

"The Tuffin family found him thrown away in a tree, took him home, washed him, sewed a few parts of him and he was good as new.

"Breeze is a real lesson on how we need to think twice about re-using and recycling anything we no longer need.

"It’s great to de-clutter but making sure that things we no longer need are renewed, reused and recycled means that we are caring for the planet we live in – not cluttering up land fill sites.”
