A BIKER has been taken to hospital with a serious injury after a crash in North Ayrshire.

Police are appealing for information from the public after the crash on the A78 near Kilwinning.

Police were called to a report of a crash on the northbound carriageway at around 9.10pm on Wednesday, February 22, involving a black Honda CBF125 motorbike.

The 26-year-old male rider was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital with a serious injury.

The road was closed while crash investigations were carried out and was reopened around 10.45pm.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart, of Police Scotland's Ayrshire road policing unit, said: “our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened to get in touch. Also anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is asked to contact police."
