NICOLA Sturgeon's elderly parents have been targetted by trolls following their daughter's resignation as First Minister.

The information was revealed by Ms Sturgeon's sister Gillian, who has been left "fuming" by the alleged abuse.

She claimed that the pair, former North Ayrshire Council provost Joan and former Irvine West and Irvine South council election candidate Robin, were targetted in their own home.

Gillian, who still lives in her sister's home town of Irvine, shared the news in a frustrated social media post.

She said: "She’s resigned. She’s no longer a thorn n your side so STAY AWAY from my parents. I am fuming."

Gillian shared the post after the couple, both in their 70s, had a t-shirt with a photo of Nicola saying 'I identify as unemployed' posted through their letterbox.

It is believed police are looking into the incident.

After receiving copious messages of support in the replies to her post, Gillian added that "this abuse been so bad last week" and that "I really worry for the three in running for FM" as "their families won’t get peace".
