POLICE have now confirmed the incident which saw Kilwinning Medical Practice close yesterday morning was a break-in.

They say there was a break-in and theft on Almswall Road, where the practice is situated, shortly before opening time on Wednesday, March 1.

Police Scotland have now added that the incident was related to further break-ins at premises on the town's Main Street.

We contacted Police Scotland about the incident, after hearing that the GP surgery had been forced to close by a "police incident".

Those who use the practice received a text message informing them of this.

It read: "There has been a police incident at Kilwinning Medical Practice.

"We have been advised not to open.

"We are currently trying to organise a way to take calls via the Health Board. Apologies for the inconvenience."

While this message seem to state that the incident took place at the medical practice, police could only confirm that it was at "a premises on Almswall Road".

No further details were provided with regards to whether anyone was within the premises at the time of the break-in.

Though they have confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

And, earlier today (Thursday March 2), locals added they had heard of similar break-ins at premises on Kilwinning's Main Street around the same time - which they believed to be linked to incident at the medical practice.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that this was the case - though have not provided details of exactly which shops were targeted.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a break-in and theft to a premises on Almswall Road, Kilwinning, around 7am on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

“Officer attended and a 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection.

“He has also been charged in connection with a further break-in at premises on Main Street in Kilwinning the same morning.

“He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on 23 March, 2023."

The man is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court later this month.
