STAFF have been left "shaken" after an alleged robbery at an Irvine pharmacy this afternoon.
Boots in Bourtreehill was closed today (Thursday, March 16) with a source telling the Times that a notice had been placed on the door to the premises stating it was shut "due to unforeseen circumstances".
The source said they had gone to collect a prescription and noticed the closure, with cops reportedly "all around" the area.
Police have now confirmed that enquiries into the incident are ongoing and officers "remain in the area".
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 2.25pm on Thursday, March 16, 2023, police were called to a premises at Lower Vennel, Irvine, following a report of a robbery.
"There were no injuries, however, staff were left shaken as a result.
"Enquiries are ongoing and officers remain in the area.”
The incident comes just weeks after Kilwinning Medical Practice was forced to close following a reported break-in and theft on Almswall Road.
A 25-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to that incident and a further break-in at premises on the town's Main Street the same morning (Wednesday, March 1).
He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court later this month.
