GREENWOOD Academy in Irvine circulated wildly on social media last week.

But it was an unsavoury incident which brought the North Ayrshire school into the limelight.

It followed the video of a fight from the school being shared on a popular Twitter page 'Fight Haven' which has over 1.7 million followers.

The video, which we have found too distressing to include, shows two males on the academy's astroturf trading blows.

However, events took a turn when one of the youngsters landed a blow on the other, which sent him into what appears to be a seizure.

The scenes were viewed over three million times on the social media platform, with the Tweet itself reaching more than 10.5m people - nearly double the population of Scotland.

After becoming aware of the video, the Times reached out to North Ayrshire Council to ask if they were aware of the incident and the social media post.

They confirmed that they were aware of both - and that action has been taken. They said no one was seriously hurt as a result of the incident.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of the video circulating on social media.

"While we don’t usually discuss individuals, we can confirm this incident has been dealt with appropriately by the school and the matter is now closed.”
