TENNIS players in Irvine are seeking corporate sponsors to help them achieve their dream.

The Irvine Tennis Community group took over the town's only courts on Thornhouse Avenue following a community asset transfer in June 2021.

From there, ambitious plans were put in place, which included a new playing surface, club facilities and lighting - with total costs estimated at around £275,000.

Having previously been awarded £25,000 by sportscotland to build a small clubhouse on the site of a previously demolished pavilion, the national agency recently provided a further £100,000 of funding for the club.

This forms part of a larger £200,000 funding boost for Irvine Tennis Community, with North Ayrshire Council awarding them £100,000 back in August.

The investment from sportscotland will help the club to transform the existing blaes courts into three full-sized and two small tennis courts, all with floodlighting.

The Thornhouse Avenue courts are the only courts in Irvine and since the club took over, they have built a strong tennis community of over 200 members.

At their recent AGM, the club heard that phase two of the improvements will start in May and run for approximately six weeks.

The courts will remain closed until the work is complete.

Phase three will begin this summer, phase four will commence in September/October 2023, and phase five will commence in spring 2024 - or sooner if funding applications are successful.

But more money is still needed to complete the overhaul of the courts and the group hope finding a corporate sponsor could be the solution.
