IRVINE Meadow manager Kevin Deeney says it's time his side take the next step.
It comes as Medda approach the tail end of a season where they have performed like "a middle of the road team", according to their boss.
He spoke to the Times following another positive result on Saturday - a 1-0 win away to a Kirkintilloch Rob Roy side who are fighting for their top flight survival.
Top marksman Callum Graham notched the game's only goal, slotting home from the penalty spot in the first half.
While it was far from a memorable performance from Medda, Deeney was happy with the attitude of his players as they maintained their fourth placed position in the WoSFL Premier Division - for the time being at least.
And while the manager - who was handed the reigns on a permanent basis late last month - described his team's performance as "terrible", he was glad to see his side were able to win ugly.
He said: “It was just three points, that’s all I’ll say about it.
"We were terrible. I think Rob Roy will probably feel a bit hard done by.
“It’s easy when you get to the point where you think ‘that’s us kind of safe – we don’t need to scrap’. That’s when we really do look for character in the boys.
“Other teams are fighting for their lives and they are literally clawing and chewing for every single point going. We might not have that edge.
“It was good on Saturday to have that wee bit of professionalism to get over the line – we’re not just completely chucking it.
“It’s hard to keep them focussed, but I’ve got a good squad. They’re all focussed and all really want to win.”
But with Deeney's focus now beginning to shift, at least in part, to next season, the Medda boss says he wants his players to kick on and finish the current campaign on as high a note as possible.
"The aim [for the rest of the season] is to finish as high up the league as we can," he said, "and get some guys some minutes who maybe haven’t got what they’ve deserved so far.
“We’re capable of competing with the teams at the top of the league, but equally we’re struggling with the teams at the bottom.
“We’re just a really middle of the road team at the moment, and we’ve just got to find that next step. That’s what we’re aiming for.”
