AROUND a hundred kind-hearted Irvine residents joined in a 'Big Walk 'n' Talk' through the town on Sunday to help raise cash to buy a bionic arm for a local boy.

The event was the latest in a programme of fund-raising efforts to buy nine-year-old Logan Lusk a 'Hero Arm' - a highly advanced and customisable bionic arm designed by Open Bionics, based in Bristol.

The Irvine youngster was born with an upper limb difference, meaning he was born without a fully developed hand.

While he has not let this hold him back, Logan's parents say that their son is now becoming more self-conscious about it.

So a GoFundMe page was set up for Logan by his parents Gareth and Aileen, with the aim of raising £15,000 so he can go to Bristol and get his Hero Arm.

This latest event was organised by Fit Ayrshire Dads (FADs) and Fit Ayrshire Masses (FAMs) alongside Logan's parents Gareth and Aileen - and has helped contribute massively towards their target.

A total of £868.25 was raised via the event itself - while another £245 was added to this total from another FADs event in Cumnock.

Donations have continued to pour in online, with more than £8,300 raised through the Go Fund Me page.

And the fund-raising efforts are still going on even though Sunday's event is now complete.

A classroom assistant from Glebe Primary in Irvine, Michael Rogerson, is also doing his bit for Logan by cycling to Bristol, having set out on his bike ride south on Friday.

He left Irvine on Friday, March 31, and is currently embarking on a cycle to Bristol - where Logan would get his Hero Arm.

This monumental effort is still ongoing, and Michael's progress can be tracked on social media by going to Facebook.com and searching for 'Bristol for Logan'.
