STAFF at the children's ward at University Hospital Crosshouse have hailed a kind-hearted Kilwinning father and son for their egg-cellent Easter Egg donation.

Michael Kirkum and his son, also Michael, delivered the chocolate goodies to the kids last Friday.

It was his 12th such collection, and was generously backed by local businesses and residents.

Hospital play specialist Michelle Dodds said: “Having to stay in hospital is never easy, but it can be especially hard for children over the holidays.

"For many years now, Michael and the local businesses he approaches have helped bring joy to patients staying with us over Easter. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity.”

William McGowan, head of partnerships and events with the Crosshouse Children’s Fund, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Michael once again for his amazing efforts and generosity in gathering these treats for the children in hospital over Easter.”

Michael said last week: “I’m so humbled by the support. It’s so amazing. You just couldn’t predict that.

“Certainly with the living crisis going on it’s just amazing.

“I think because of the crisis everyone wants to dig deep and help out.”

A committed community fund-raiser of 30 years, Michael is also busy planning a ‘Cranberry Jam’ concert in the Cranberry Moss Community Centre for Saturday, April 15.

Michael’s son, Michael junior, stepped in to help his dad collect donations this year due to his busy schedule, and will present the chocolate eggs to the children’s ward this Friday.

Michael junior said: "I would like to thank Energyze personal training who donated 185 eggs from themselves and clients, Gallagher Insurance, Billy's Barbers, On Fire For Driving, Mane Barbers, Lynn Stevenston and Darren Clark to name a few.

"Also, thanks for all donations and support without this would not be possible."
