THERE was reason to celebrate in Irvine last month as one of the town's High Street shops celebrated their 10th birthday.

On Monday, March 27, those in the Salvation Army shop were able to let their hair down and celebrate a decade since they opened in the town.

Shop manager Tarne McGuinness, who joined the team last year, and her assistant manager Cat O’Neil celebrated the occasion with volunteers and customers.

There was reminiscing, treats and cake in what turned out to be a highly enjoyable day.

The shop is popular in the local community and has a large number of regular customers.

Over the 10 years the shop has raised a great deal of money to help the work and projects of the Salvation Army.

In the shop you will find a large variety of preloved and new items at affordable, fair prices such as bric-a brac, ladies and gents clothing, accessories, books and DVDs.

The aim is to divert items from landfill whilst helping to further The Salvation Army mission.

The shop is restocked by generous donation of items from the local community and the team wished to thank all in the community for their support over the last decade.

And, of course, the shop would not be here without the support of a dedicated team of volunteers past and present.

Shop manager Tarne paid tribute to those who gave up their time and said: “We have an amazing team of volunteers, they work hard and we all enjoy a chat, a laugh and, of course, a cuppa together.

"They’re fabulous and we couldn’t run the shop without them.

“We are always looking to expand our team, so if you have a couple of hours to spare or are looking to develop skills, please pop in for a chat about volunteering with us.”

If you have items that you would like to donate, just bring them to the front or back door during opening hours and a member of the team will gladly receive them.

They will also explain how you can increase the value of your donation by 25 per cent through the government gift aid scheme.
