IRVINE volunteers have branded the latest incident of vandalism at a community centre in the town "the last straw".
Members of the team at the Castlepark Community Centre saw parts of their garden destroyed by youths on Monday, April 24.
A volunteer from the centre contacted the Times to discuss the latest bout of vandalism, which they say was the fourth such act in the last few months.
However, it was one of the items which was destroyed which really tipped them over the edge.
Amongst the destruction, a bench erected in memory of one volunteer's grandson was severely damaged.
The centre's shed and another seating area were also defiled by the "kids" they say have been targetting the facility.
The team at the centre say they have now reached the end of their tether.
A volunteer told the Times: "It has been about four times in the last few months, but yesterday was the last straw.
"We do a lot of hard work in that garden and they have actually come out and damaged a bench in memory of someone's grandson.
"It's just escalating."
They said that now local police are involved in efforts to put a halt to these issues.
And Police Scotland confirmed that the latest incident was reported to them, and they are now investigating.
A force spokesperson said: “Around 2.25pm on Monday, April 24, 2023, officers received a report of vandalism at a premises on Castlepark Circle, Irvine.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
