IRVINE'S high flats are going.... going.... nearly gone.

Photographer Charlie Gilmour dropped by Garnock Court yesterday to take these amazing pictures of the demolition work.

Garnock Court is the first of the five blocks to be gradually dismantled as site clearance works reach a landmark stage.

Work on the demolition began on April 11

A council spokesperson said as work began: "The contractors have advised that during the demolition work, dust and increased levels of noise will inevitably be experienced.

"To minimise the impact of this, they will use water-fed dust suppression hoses, fitted to the working boom of the ultra-high reach demolition excavator, and limit noisy operations to between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

"Once demolition is complete later this year, work will then start on construction of more than 50 modern, affordable and energy-efficient council homes."

Tenants of the Irvine flats voted for them to be demolished in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire in London in 2017, which led to 72 deaths.
