THE Segdoune Gala returned to Kilwinning on Sunday - giving the town a right royal weekend.

Queen Sophia Stewart was crowned by Carol Smith before a large crowd in the town centre.

This year's gala had been brought forward to coincide with the Coronation of King Charles.

And it turned out to be a great day for everyone who attended.

There was a focus on community games, stalls and entertainment, with some amazing performers entertaining the crowd.

As well as music, there was a tug of war championship, a dunk tank filled with well kent local faces, more than 40 stalls, some very cute aplacas

There had been fears that the much loved Gala would be cancelled this year, after the former organisers, Promoting Kilwinning, folded.

But a group of Kilwinning traders and community activists joined forces to form Choose Kilwinning - and ensure one of the town's favourite annual events will return - and go back to its traditional roots.

A Choose Kilwinning spokesperson said on Facebook after the event: "The feedback from the community has been amazing today. Thank you all so much."
