TWO people have been taken to hospital after a three vehicle crash on the B7080 in Irvine.

Emergency crews were seen attending the incident on Long Drive between Newmoor Roundabout and Towerlands Interchange this morning, Tuesday May 9.

Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) were all present at the scene.

It was confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the collision - which saw part of the road closed for around two hours to allow the vehicles to be recovered.

The incident saw two people taken to Crosshouse Hospital, with a further injured person treated at the scene.

A SAS spokesperson confirmed: “We received a call today at 0958 hours to attend a road traffic collision on Long Drive in Irvine.

"We dispatched two ambulances to the scene and a Critical Care Paramedic, with the first resource arriving within six minutes.

"We transported two patients to Crosshouse Hospital and a further patient was treated and discharged at the scene.”

The SFRS also sent three appliances to the scene, along with the heavy rescue unit.

A SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10am on Tuesday, May 9 to reports of a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the B7080 Long Drive between Newmoor Roundabout and Towerlands Interchange in Irvine.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and the heavy rescue unit to the scene.

“Crews left the scene at 10.46 after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Police Scotland later confirmed that those who were transported to Crosshouse Hospital had "non life threatening injuries".

They added that a man has since been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with an alleged road traffic offence.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:  "Around 10am on Tuesday, 9 May 2023, police received a report of a three vehicle crash on the B7080 at Long Drive, Irvine.

"Police, SFRS and SAS attended and a number of people were taken to the University Hospital Crosshouse, Kilmarnock with non life threatening injuries

"The road was closed for approximately two hours to allow recovery of the vehicles.

"One man will be subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with an alleged road traffic offence."
