A FIRE at a property in Irvine that left a 59-year-old woman in hospital is being treated as attempted murder.

Police Scotland have confirmed the investigation after a blaze at a property in McKinlay Crescent in the early hours of Saturday, May 6.

Emergency services were called to the property at around 4.20am.

The woman was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse for treatment and has since been discharged.

However, detectives revealed on Tuesday that the incident was being treated as attempted murder - and asked the public for their help.

Detective Constable Sandy McBreen of Saltcoats Police Station said: “Inquiries are ongoing into this incident which is being treated as attempted murder.

“If you were in the area of McKinlay Crescent between 3.40am and 4am on Saturday morning and saw anything suspicious, or have any information that may assist our investigation, please contact officers as soon as possible.

“We are keen to obtain any dash cam footage from motorists in the area between these times, in case they have captured anything that may be helpful to this inquiry.  

“Information should be passed to 101 quoting reference number 0663 of May 6.

"Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
