A MAN was taken to hospital after emergency crews rushed to Irvine late last night, Tuesday May 16.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and Police Scotland were both spotted in the town shortly after 11pm with police confirming they were responding to reports of "concern for a person".

Officers say they were called to the Marress Road area of the town close to the the Marress playing fields at Irvine Community Sports Club where the air ambulance is said to have landed.

There is no indication that the incident was related to the club - rather that this was just the safest nearby landing zone.

And after being contacted by the Times, the SAS have confirmed that they were in Irvine last night.

They were called to an incident shortly after 10.30pm, and four ambulance vehicles and the helimed air ambulance were sent to the scene.

Online site flightradar24 was used to confirm that a helimed aircraft landed around the Irvine Sports Club at 11.18pm, though a more specific location for the incident itself has not yet been provided.

Following their response, a patient was taken to Crosshouse Hospital.

A SAS spokesperson confirmed: “We received a call at 22:39 on May 16, 2023 to attend an incident in Irvine.

"Four ambulances and an air ambulance attended the scene and one patient was transported to Crosshouse Hospital.”

Tracking of the air ambulance's next flight indicates it was not the aircraft which was used for this journey.

Flightradar24 shows that the helimed left Irvine around seven minutes after its arrival, returning to Glasgow Airport, without landing at any hospital.

While Police Scotland, who were called to the incident around 45 minutes earlier, have since confirmed that the patient was a 35-year-old male.

“Emergency services attended and a 35-year-old man was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse for treatment.”
