Two boys were robbed by a gang of six adults in Irvine town centre on Saturday, say police.

According to cops, the incident happened at around 7.25pm on Saturday, May 27.

Police say the two boys, aged 13 and 11, had just come out of the Rivergate shopping centre and on to the precinct at Bridgegate when they were confronted by five males and a female.

One of the males rifled their pockets before walking off with personal items and cash.

The boys, although not injured, were very shaken and distressed by the incident.

The suspects are described as:

1. Male, white, aged 16 to 18, wearing a grey top with hood up and black tracksuit trousers, blue trainers.

2. Male, white, aged 18 to 20, long black hair and a beard. He was wearing a black tracksuit, dark trainers, carrying a black rucksack.

3. Male, white, aged 16 to 18, wearing a black top with hood up, black shorts, white trainers, carrying a black rucksack.

4. Male, white, aged 16 to 18, short brown hair, grey hooded top, grey shorts, black trainers.

5. Male, white, aged 16 to 18, wearing a black body warmer, black and grey top with a hood up, white skip hat under the hood, black mask covering lower face, black shorts, white trainers.

6. Female, white, aged 16 to 18, dark hair, wearing a grey padded jacket with a hood, black leggings, white shoes, carrying a black holdall.

Detective Constable Stevie Williams from Ayrshire Division CID, said: “The group had been in the general area and were being very loud.

“People might not have noticed that they had robbed the young boys, but from CCTV, the public was aware of their presence.

“After the robbery, the suspects walked through Rivergate shopping centre, in the direction Irvine train station or Harbourside.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who saw the robbery or who can help trace those responsible. Please call 101 quoting 3564 of Saturday, 27 May 2023.”
