A TEEN has been arrested in connection with an alleged robbery in Irvine.

Police confirmed on Friday, June 9, that a 15-year-old boy had been arrested and charged in relation to the alleged offence in Irvine's Bridgegate on Saturday, May 27.

The update follows an earlier appeal made by Police Scotland in relation to the incident.

Describing the incident at the time of the appeal, officers said the two boys, aged 13 and 11, had just come out of the Rivergate shopping centre and on to the precinct at Bridgegate when they were confronted by five males and a female.

Now an arrest has been made, and the teen is due to appear in court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with this robbery.

"He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date. Enquiries are ongoing.

"A report will be submitted to the Scottish Children’s Reporters Administration and the Procurator Fiscal."
