THE Dreghorn Gala is returning for the first time in 14 years tomorrow.

The royal party, including Queen Lauren Beattie, King Leo Mullin, Princess Orla Cassidy and Prince Aaron Morton, will be crowned on Saturday, June 17, following a parade at 11am from Old Coach Brae to the park at Dreghorn Primary.

It has already been a big week for Dreghorn, with events starting last Sunday in the form of a treasure hunt for kids, followed by, fun runs, bingo sessions and a beetle drive.

And tonight, Friday June 16, local pub teams are facing off in a football tournament at Greenwood Academy.

On Gala Day itself, the parade will leave Coach Brae, heading down Main Street to the Dreghorn Primary car park, with the crowning scheduled for noon.

There will be funfair rides, tombola, arts and crafts, market stalls, some yummy food and plenty of entertainment for all to enjoy.

And the gala events conclude that evening with a family night in the Crown Inn, with a bouncy castle for the kids. The event is already sell out.

Gala committee chair Meg Frewe told the Times: "It has been 14 years since the last galal day.

"I returned to Dreghorn in 2013 and realised it wasn't on any more.

"I finally suggested the return of the gala on social media and everyone said it was a great idea.

"We managed to get a committee together and a lot of hard work had been done to make sure this is a success.

"We are still looking for some volunteers to help out on the day. If anyone can help they can contact us on social media.

"And we hope to have our AGM will be held on July 12, when everyone will be welcome."

Hopefully the warm weather will continue tomorrow so Dreghorn Gala gets its day in the sun.
