The owners of an Irvine house who had planning permission for an extension refused will get another chance to argue their case.

A 'notice of review' was submitted in respect of a planning application for the erection of a single-storey extension to the front and side of a semi-detached house at 51 Quarry Road.

A meeting of a North Ayrshire Council 'local review body' (LRB) this week heard that the application was refused by authority officials who said it would be "out of character" with the neighbouring house in the street because of its size and position.

The property's owners, in their appeal, say there are similar extensions to theirs nearby - and suggested moving the extension one metre from the adjoining property and altering  the roof.

However, no amendment plans were submitted.

In any event, the officers said, they would not overcome the impact of a four-metre projection to the front of the extension.

In response, the applicants argue that there are similar extensions in the area.

At the LRB's meeting on June 14, Councillor Timothy Billings, vice-chair of the planning committee, suggested asking the applicants to provide more information on the extensions which they considered similar to the one they are planning.

That move was approved by the LRB, though no date has yet been set for the next meeting.
