A NEW store which will bring 30 jobs to Irvine is to open next month.

It comes as discount retailer B&M confirmed that it has taken over two units, which are currently empty, in the town.

This business has taken possession of the former Argos and Halfords stores on East Road.

Argos vacated the unit when the retailer moved into Sainbury's in Irvine, while Halfords only closed after the store had its lease terminated back in February after more than a decade trading in the town.

The two units, which total 17,279 sqare feet, are now to be given a new lease of life.

B&M says that the empty units are now to undergo a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme.

This is set to be completed in the coming weeks, with the new store to officially open on 8am on Saturday, August 12.

The store says customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded groceries for the best possible price including a range of food, drink, and pet food.

There will also be a fantastic selection of quality health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games, gifts and plenty more to explore.

The dicount retailer added that the new store will provide "a welcome boost to the local economy" and will create 30 new jobs "for local people".

A spokesperson from B&M said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.

“We are all really excited to get the doors open and welcome our new customers through the door.”

While the company has confirmed that this new shop opening on East Road will not affect its current store on Lamont Drive, which will remain open.
