A GENEROUS bakery has rolled out free food for North Ayrshire's Fairer Food Network.

Fergusons of Kilmarnock is providing bread rolls as part of the Scotland Excel framework.

It’s all part of the 'community benefits' element of the contract.

They have supplied the North Ayrshire Fairer Food Network with a twice-weekly donation of free, freshly baked rolls to distribute to their members as part of their weekly visit.

The Fairer Food Network is a community-run network of food larders, which offer a friendly, dignified space for local people to top up their weekly shopping at a subsidised rate.

This helps to stretch limited budgets further and ensure that families can have access to a choice of staple food items during this challenging economic period.

During  the last two years, the Fairer Food Network has received more than 47,000 rolls free of charge.

Company representative Jacquie Foster said:  “When asked to do this, it was a time there was a lot of uncertainty for people after Covid, so when the opportunity came up, we knew it would be a good way to help those who needed it in the community as well as play a part in keeping supply and production local.”

Jacquie added: ”From a business point of view it helps us maintain the good working relationship we have with North Ayrshire.

“From a personal point of view it’s just good to know that in a world where everyone is so busy and needing a helping hand, we are doing our bit.”
