Twenty years ago this week, North Ayrshire was basking in a heatwave - and our photographer was out and about capturing some of the best action.

Kilwinning Weightlifting Club held the first ever Scottish Open Development Championship in August 2003 - and walked away with 12 medals.
Building work on the redevelopment of Irvine’s Sanderson Avenue got underway ... and the local community claimed it would help lay the street’s tragic history to rest. The decision to knock the houses down was confirmed after a horrific fire in March 2001 which left three teenage girls dead.
Greenwood Academy’s pupil tutor Aimee McMillan conducts her six trombone students at the brass for beginners summer school which was held in 2003.
Children from Whitehirst Park and Woodside Park Community Association took part in rock climbing as part of a 2003 summer programme with Active Outdoor Pursuits.
It was fun in the sun for Irvine folk as they sweltered in the baking August heat. Daring teenagers yelled ‘pier we go ‘as they jumped off the esplanade for a quick plunge in the water to take the heat off them.
Kilwinning Rotarians reached the final of the Fellowship Challenge social competition. They are pictured above left after losing out at table tennis to the Bothwell and Uddingston club.
