A man assaulted his girlfriend and then slapped her mum after a night out in Irvine.

Jack Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty to two charges of assault, one aggravated by abuse of a partner, seizing her by the hair and pulling her to the ground after a night out on May 15 last year.

The 22-year-old also admitted striking her mum with his hand and a charge of behaving in a threatening manner by hitting the door with a patio chair at Parterre on being put out the house.

Sentencing was deferred for reports, with Fitzpatrick back for sentencing next month.

When he appeared in Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, the Procurator Fiscal depute said: "The accused and witness were in a relationship for three and a half years.

"Both were at Irvine snooker club consuming alcohol and the accused was in a 'bit of a mood'."

She added: "As the couple made their way home he started calling her names such as 'slag' and shouting aggressively.

"At that point she left the accused and walked home alone.

"He began shouting and swearing, believing one of the two females had his house key. He made reference that 'he would knock her f***ing lights out'.

"He grabbed her by the hair and after seizing her hair pulling her to the ground. [Her mother] was present throughout and shouted upstairs for family to assist, a witness came downstairs and they were separated.

"[The mother] attempted to convince the accused to leave. At this point he assaulted her by slapping her.

"She pushed him out the property and he began to hit the door with a folding patio chair."

Defence solicitor Graeme Cunninghame said the offence was now 15-months-old and the couple had been together ever since.

He added: "He has been keeping out of trouble."

Sheriff Colin Bissett deferred sentence for criminal justice social work reports.

Fitzpatrick, of East Broomlands, Irvine, will return to court next month.
