AN IRVINE based addiction recovery charity say they had an "amazing day" highlighting that "recovery is possible".

Minds of Recovery made up a small part of a crowd of 3,000 people who turned out in Greenock for the latest event organised by Recovery Walk Scotland on Saturday, September 23.

The event saw those taking part walk two miles from Battery Park in the town, enjoy live music, and pay homage to those lost through addiction.

However, for Minds of Recover, "it’s about highlighting recovery is possible".

The Irvine based organisation spoke of the importance of the event, which was held to mark National Recovery Month in September, which is designed to increase awareness and understanding of substance use disorders and celebrate people who recover.

They said: "As you may be aware, drug deaths in Scotland are still a massive concern.

"On Saturday our very own Irvine charity Minds of Recovery - along with 3,000 others - came together as a community to raise awareness at Recovery Walk Greenock.

"We laughed, we cried, we danced but more importantly we did it all united.

"North Ayrshire maybe had a small presence, with 32 of us, but you could hear our roar.

"The opposite of addiction is connection and we certainly have felt connected at the weekend.

"Thanks to everyone who made yesterday possible, but our hearts go out to the ones we lost along the way.

"Ultimately it’s about highlighting recovery is possible and no one needs to do it alone. We are walking alongside you."
