This week we are taking a look back at the big stories and pictures which appeared in the Irvine Times in late October 2003.

Greenwood Academy student Alan Ralston didn’t have pharaoh to go for his latest role - it looks like he mastered it in a quiffy.
The young actor took on the part of the Egyptian ruler in the school’s 2003 production of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, who sings his dreams to Joseph dressed as Elvis Presley.

Irvine Rotary’s winning golfers are pictured with the Ayrshire Rotary District Golf League trophy in October 2003.
Team members David Dickie, Alex Lumsden and Raymond Shek won the trophy for the second time.
Raymond Shek also won the Campbell McClure Trophy at a recent event.
Helping the winners celebrate are Irvine Rotary president Iain Shaw, sports officer Ronnie Young and Rotarians Ian Wood, Fraser Murray and Michael Dore.

Pupils at Kilwinning Academy got the kettle on to try and help raise £3.5 million for cancer victims in the UK.
The teenagers took part in just one of the many events in and around the Irvine and Kilwinning area as part of Macmillan Cancer Relief’s annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Climbers from Kilwinning cracked open a bottle of bubbly on top of Snowdon in Wales in 2003 - after completing all 318 Munros in the UK.
The Am Binnein Hillwalking Club - Alex Nelson, Eva Howat and their two climbing companions - started bagging Munros in 1991 when they conquered Ben Lomond.

Irvine children were kept busy during the October Week with the annual North Ayrshire Children’s Festival. These youngers really enjoyed the ‘beach bash’.

Hundreds of young bookworms – including these Dreghorn Primary pupils - received medals and certificates after completing the third annual North Ayrshire Summer Reading Scheme.
