A JUDGE has told an Irvine teen found in possession of a baseball bat that it was "disappointing" to see him appear in the dock.

Sheriff Laura Mundell made the admission as 18-year-old first offender Campbell Le Beau appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

Le Beau, of the town's Muir Drive, pleaded guilty to one charge in relation to being found in possession of an offensive weapon and a further two of assaulting police officers.

The charges stemmed from August 3 of this year, when the Irvine teen was in the Bank Street area of the town.

It was here that he admitted to being in possession of the baseball bat.

The procurator fiscal depute said police were contacted in the early hours of the morning and were informed that a group of youths had gathered in the Bank Street - and one was in possession of a baseball bat.

When officers arrived at the scene, Le Beau approached them and admitted it was him who had the weapon.

Two officers then arrested the accused, but he began to repeatedly strike out at them, kicking and striking both officers on the body.

Following the struggle, Le Beau was placed in handcuffs, put in a police vehicle and was later cautioned and charged.

As he appeared before Sheriff Mundell, she told the accused it was "disappointing to see a young man who has never been in court" before her.

She then deferred sentence for reports, with the case to recall at a later date.

Le Beau was granted bail until then.
