An Ayrshire golf resort has been given a prestigious award.

Dundonald Links has been crowned ‘Scotland’s Best Golf Hotel’ at the World Golf Awards just two years after unveiling its new-look luxury accommodation offering.

The accolade was announced at a ceremony at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Links on Monday, October 23.

The popular coastal layout was acquired by Darwin Escapes in 2019 and underwent a £25m investment that included the construction of brand-new luxury lodges, rooms and amenities to create the ultimate Scottish stay-and-play destination.

Dundonald’s collection of two, four and six-bedroom lodges are ideal for families and groups.

Regarded as one of the region’s finest restaurants, the Canny Crow proved key to Dundonald’s win.

Overlooking the golf course from the first floor of the modern clubhouse, the versatile restaurant is equally suited for fine dining and casual meals.

Meanwhile, behind the bar sits a unique whisky room where guests can try over a hundred whiskies from around the globe.

Ashley Pheasant, head of golf for Darwin Escapes, said: “We’re thrilled to be named Scotland’s best golf hotel for the first time, as our ambition since 2019 has always been to achieve that status.

“Our course speaks for itself, but we felt that it deserved world-class accommodation, dining and facilities to match.

"A prestigious award like this one demonstrates that we’ve succeeded on that front, but we’ve never stopped thinking about ways to make the resort even better.”

The award comes just a week after Dundonald Links unveiled its new winter golf packages, with an overnight stay and two rounds of authentic seasonal golf starting at just £199 per person.

This year has seen two illustrious events grace Dundonald Links’ Kyle Phillips-designed course, with stars of golf choosing to stay on-site in each: the FreeD GROUP Women’s Scottish Open presented by Trust Golf in August and final qualifying for the Open Championship in July.
