NHS Ayrshire and Arran patients waiting for an operation could be set to receive a text message today (November 2) asking if they still need the surgery.
Those added to the waiting list for planned inpatient and day case operations between September 1, 2022 and April 30, 2023, will receive a text message from NHS Scotland regarding the matter.
An NHS spokesperson explained: "The text message is genuine and important, and will ensure our patient waiting lists are up to date and that patients still need their operation.
"If you are waiting for an appointment or operation, please do not ignore this message."
Text messages will be sent to people on the waiting list who have already provided a mobile number to their NHS Board.
They will receive a text message from the NHS Scotland National Elective Coordination Unit (NECU) on mobile number 07860 039092.
This will include a link to a short survey asking if they still need their appointment or operation followed by a few questions to confirm their identity.
