A charity set up in memory of a late Kilbirnie man has been awarded a £2,500 grant.

The Greig Steven Memorial was founded in 2016 in memory of the former Police Scotland groom who passed away aged 25 following a short battle with cancer.

Greig, who worked at the mounted unit near Stewarton for six years, was recently honoured with a refurbished indoor arena at the facility named after him.

Now his charity has been given a fresh funding boost thanks to the Maximus Foundation UK.

The grant will help contribute to the running costs of Greig’s House, a retreat in Scotland for families to spend time with their loved ones who are battling cancer.

The charity offers a five-night complimentary stay for children, young people and adults with cancer living in Scotland.

Irvine Times:

Elaine Steven, Chairperson of the Greig Steven Memorial, said: “We are grateful to Maximus Foundation UK for supporting Greig Steven Memorial’s cause, which will ensure the future sustainability of Greig's House.

"The beautiful luxury lodge situated in Wemyss Bay provides a five-night complimentary stay to people in Scotland living with cancer, along with their loved ones, taking them away from the stresses, strains and clinical environments they face daily at a most worrying time.”

Charis Green, Chair of the Maximus Foundation UK, said: “We applaud UK charities whose work changes lives through campaigning, fundraising and support.

"So, we’re delighted to help the Greig Steven Memorial provide a place where those fighting cancer and their families can find moments of peace and connection."

The Greig Steven Memorial relies solely on donations to maintain the retreat, which aims to create a peaceful environment for those undergoing treatment for cancer.
