A MAN has been taken to hospital following a single vehicle crash on Irvine's Kilwinning Road.

The incident saw part of the busy commuter road through the town closed today, Thursday, November 16 - though the road has since re-opened.

Police had earlier warned road users of the closure - between the town's police station and the junction with Marress Road - though had yet to confirm the reason for this.

However, officers have since said that this was in response to a single vehicle crash.

They added that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a crash involving a single vehicle in the Kilwinning Road area of Irvine shortly before 11am on Thursday, 16 November.

“The person has been taken to Crosshouse Hospital and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“The road is currently closed.”
