A serial Irvine shoplifter who stole a bike from a supermarket has been jailed for a string of similar offences.

Jourdaine Burns, 38, nicked the bicycle from the town's Asda store.

He also stole a quantity of handbags from Boots in Fullarton Square, Irvine and from the town’s New Look store in the Rivergate Mall.

Burns appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday from custody – and found himself back behind bars a short time later.

He stole the bicycle on March 19 this year, and was out on bail for other offences when he stole from New Look on October 25,

He then made off with the handbags from Boots on October 31.

Sheriff Laura Mundell told the court: “I am trying to come to terms with the high number of cases Mr Burns has.

"He has been remanded on two of them, and has been in custody since November 21.”

She then told Burns: “You have accumulated a lot of cases in this court. I will deal with two of them today.

“I will revoke your previous community payback order and sentence you to three months in prison.

“On the other charges, I will sentence you to two months in prison. That’s a sentence of five months in total.

“On all the other outstanding cases, I will defer sentence until the end of January to see if social work think you are suitable for work in the community.”
