In the past few years, MPs in Ayrshire have lodged their extra earnings through invited trips abroad, consulting and free gifts.

The register of interests, a system used by MPs to declare earnings on top of their salary, shows how MPs in the area, and across the UK, have made extra money or have been gifted items through their job.

Each MP's earnings are in addition to their basic annual salary of £86,584.

According to the register, Patricia Gibson, who represents North Ayrshire and Arran, has earned around £440 for completing surveys for Edinburgh company Savanta ComRes, and for payments from Yonder Consulting in Edinburgh, also for surveys.

The MP would receive around £75 each time for around 25 minutes of work with the consulting company, which took place throughout 2022.

Allan Dorans, MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock, accepted a token from Scottish Racing Ltd in January 2022.

This allowed him complementary access to any race meeting held at any of the five racecourses in Scotland (Ayr, Hamilton Park, Kelso, Musselburgh and Perth), whilst he is MP for the constituency.

The potential annual value of the benefit is not listed as it is below the registrable threshold.

Meanwhile, Central Ayrshire MP Dr Philippa Whitford was gifted travel and hospitality worth almost £2,000 for a visit to Germany.

The MP was given travel and hospitality worth £1,026.46 by the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany, to give a toast to Robert Burns at the BCCG Burns Supper in Frankfurt in January 2023.

She was also given hospitality to the value of £961.47 by DZ-Bank in Germany for meeting some of its members on the same trip.

Alan Brown, the MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun, has registered no interests or earnings on top of his salary and expenses.
