This week, we take a look back at some of the top stories and photos from Irvine and Kilwinning in February 2004.

Who can you spot in these pics from 20 years ago?

Irvine Times: Gymathon

A Kilwinning man who “died” following an horrific road accident raised thousands of pounds for brain-damaged children. Battling Matthew Carpenter, 27, had stopped breathing at the scene of the crash, and after being resuscitated just in time by ambulance crews he spent a month in a deep coma before fighting his way back to fitness. Matthew and his stepdad Mark joined five other volunteers at Dalry’s MRC Fitness studio in 2004 to complete a gymathon marathon raising a grand total of £4000.

Irvine Times: Chinese
