An Ayrshire rape crisis centre has launched a campaign to honour the woman that inspire people in the region.

The STAR Centre's 'Call to action' campaign is inviting the people of Ayrshire to join in a campaign that celebrates the achievements and contributions of women worldwide.

Whether it's a well-known celebrity, a public figure, or a cherished family member or friend, individuals are encouraged to nominate the women who have made a significant difference in their lives.

The STAR centre is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing support services to survivors of sexual violence to the whole of Ayrshire.

To participate, individuals are invited to nominate their chosen inspirational woman using the form at https://forms.office.com/e/bBKTnfc4v9.

People are asked to give some background on the person they are nominating, as well as provide details for the centre to verify that the person is comfortable being featured.

Selected nominations will be showcased on the STAR Centre's social media channels, providing a platform to share the stories of remarkable women with a wider audience.

Elaine David, centre manager, said: “International Women’s Day is an opportunity for us to connect with women around the world and recognise the contributions of women to all aspects of life from science, medicine, business, the arts and family life.

"I hope people use this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful women who inspire them."

Emma Hackney, sexual violence prevention worker, added: “As a prevention worker, it is often my job to challenge gender stereotypes that feed into cultures of sexual violence.

"We wanted to use International Women’s Day as an opportunity to spotlight inspiring women and give people in Ayrshire an opportunity to celebrate the women that have influenced them.”
