Cumnock: Holmhead office named after Paul Henderson

Paul Henderson lived at the home on Hospital Road in Holmhead for over 20 years, after suffering a serious injury when he was younger.

Sadly, Paul passed away in December 2022.

The property was then taken over, with plans to transform it for business use unveiled in October.

David Weir, from the Capital Development Consultants, who took over the building, wanted to honour Paul in some way, and chose to do so by naming the building 'St Paul's Lodge'.

Paul was treated by nurses and carers throughout his time in the house, after suffering an accident  which resulted in him being paralysed below the neck.

They joined Paul's family, including sister Carol McCulloch and husband, David, as well as staff from Capital Development Consultants and those who helped to transform the building.

David said: "We wanted to do this as a bit of a tribute to Paul and his family, because they are amazing people.

"The family were unbelievably grateful and taken aback a wee bit by us doing this.

"They are happy that the building is going to use in a similar condition to when they left it and it's not getting knocked down for houses or anything like that.

"The house had been adapted to treat Paul for a lot of his life, and the nurses and carers who looked after him through the year did an amazing job for Paul and the family.

"That's why, as a business, we thought it was important to have as many people involved in the building together as we could."

David added: "Paul's family were emotional and some nice memories came back to them, but they were so happy with the surprise of naming the building.

"We got a nice card on behalf of the family to say thank you for what we did.

"It's nice to be able to keep a bit of the history and heritage of these buildings when we can."
