Humza Yousaf has resigned as the First Minister of Scotland.

Yousaf made a statement from Bute House in Edinburgh announcing his decision.

He came under fire last week following the decision to end his party's partnership with the Scottish Greens, which pushed the SNP into a minority government.

Opposition parties in the Scottish Parliament had tabled a vote of no confidence in the First Minister.

Mr Yousaf says he will continue as First Minister until his replacement has been found.

He said: "I have concluded that repairing the relationship across the political divide can only be done with someone else at the helm."

His reign as First Minister lasted just more than a year, following the resignation of his predecessor Nicola Sturgeon.
