ONE of the biggest days in Kilwinning's annual events calendar is now less than two weeks away.

Saturday, May 18, will see the annual Segdoune Gala take place - with big plans set out for the event.

Event organisers Choose Kilwinning have promised to keep costs down for locals attending - though certainly not at the expense of fun.

This year's gala, which runs from 12-4pm, will feature something for all the family such as alpacas, a rodeo bull, ten-pin bowling, garden games as well as craft and fundraising stalls.

There will also be the crowning of this year's Segdoune Queen - Sarah, a pupil at St Winning's Primary School.

In addition to the usual set-up, this year the Main Street event will also make use of the historic Kilwinning Abbey grounds and the car park at Abbey Green.

It is hoped this will make it easier for families to access the event and ensure there is plenty of parking available for those visiting.

Choose Kilwinning’s chair, Aaran McDonald, said: “This year we are continuing our mantra of high fun, low cost so that as many families can access our event as possible, join us in celebrating this historic Kilwinning tradition and visit some of our amazing traders.

"We are thrilled to be working with partners across the area to bring together another stand out event and thanks to our funding partners in the National Lottery we have been able to keep costs down.

“The gala is one of the stand out events of the year and at Choose Kilwinning it is one we are thrilled to be organising.

"Our Queen and royals are a credit to their families, schools and our town and we hope the everyone will join us to celebrate them and our town on the May 18.

"Fingers crossed the sun is on our side too!”
