The Scottish Parliament will celebrate its 25th anniversary in July - and Cunninghame South MSP Ruth Maguire is searching for local heroes to join her at the big event.

Nominations from communities across Scotland are being sought as the Scottish Parliament commemorates the official opening by Queen Elizabeth II, on July 1, 1999.

The event will be a celebration of the achievements of the Parliament over the last 25 years, as well as a celebration of Scottish music and culture that will include performances from young people from across the country, with the successful nominee attending a lunch hosted by the Presiding Officer.

SNP MSP Ms Maguire, who represents Irvine, Kilwinning and parts of Saltcoats and Stevenston, said: "The Scottish Parliament has always been recognised as a parliament for the people.

"As we celebrate 25 years of devolution it is only right that a key element of this historic event will be recognising those who have made such a huge difference to their local areas.

"I know many of my constituents have made extraordinary contributions to our local neighbourhoods, and I am keen to hear from those who wish to nominate someone who they feel has made life better for others."

To nominate, please email ruth.maguire.msp@parliament.scot, providing information on your local hero, their contribution to our community and their contact details, or visit ruthmaguire.scot, by Wednesday, May 29.
