Ferry sailings between Ardrossan and Brodick remain cancelled - for the fifth day in a row.

CalMac confirmed this morning that engine trouble aboard MV Isle of Arran has still to be fixed today (Tuesday, September 3) with no sailings having taken place since last Friday.

Sailings between Troon Harbour and Brodick will continue, but there will be no additional sailings from the South Ayrshire port today due to crew hours of rest regulations.

The other alternative route to the island is the Claonaig – Lochranza service, though travel cannot be guaranteed.

Engine trouble was first reported earlier last week when a couple of sailings had to be cancelled due to an issue with the MV Isle of Arran's gearbox cooler.

Things got worse by Friday, when the gearbox cooler has to be removed and taken to the mainland for repairs. CalMac are still waiting for the replacement parts to arrive.

The ferry company said: "Due to the estimated arrival time of the spare part required to repair MV Isle of Arran’s gearbox cooler, all sailings on Tuesday, September 3 have been cancelled.

"MV Alfred is unable to operate any additional sailings on Tuesday. September 3 due to crew hours of rest.

"We are currently moving traffic to prioritise lifeline goods and services and will contact impacted bookings.

"An additional bus has been organised to take foot passengers from Ardrossan Port at 7.30am and 12:30pm, and from Troon Port at 11.40am and 4,40pm.

"Alternative travel is available via our turn up and go Claonaig – Lochranza service. However, this service is extremely busy, and travel cannot be guaranteed."

Check for updates later today.
