THE 150th anniversary of the Bridgend Gospel Hall in Kilwinning will be celebrated with a special event later this month.

And an open invitation has been extended to all - especially those who attended Sunday School or children's meetings in past years.

The event, starting at 10.30am on Saturday, September 21, will be relatively informal, commencing with some light refreshments, tea, coffee and cakes and continuing with some history, reflections, stories of past days together with an opportunity to view some old archive photographs.

The brethren in Kilwinning met in Greenfoot School to break bread for the first time on September 13, 1874.

The meeting commenced at 12noon and according to the official record, the names of those present were Thomas Downs, John Fulton, Matthew Richmond, and John Verrier.

The present Bridgend Hall, built by Mr Burns, a banker, for the Ayrshire Christian Union eventually came to be used as the gathering place of the assembly and remains the base to this day.
