A MAJOR Irvine road has been closed following a serious crash this afternoon.
Police Scotland have confirmed that Towerlands Road has been shut between Springside and Dreghorn, the Perceton turn off and Heatherstane Way, following the incident.
A man has been taken to hospital following the collision, which police say involved a car colliding with a tree at around 1.30pm on Thursday, September 26.
Police Scotland are advising that road users avoid the area while their enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
A force spokesperson said: "Towerlands Road in Irvine is closed between Springside and Dreghorn due to a serious road crash.
"Emergency services were called to the collision involving a car and a tree around 1.35pm on Thursday, September, 26 2024.
"One man has been taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.
"Enquiries are ongoing and people are being advised to avoid the area."
